This Month's Famous PoolPoolmeister Lew Akins' Latest Project
One of the foremost experts in swimming pool construction is a gentleman by the name of Lew Akins. He is recognized in the pool industry as the "go to" guy for the tough and/or unique projects. Lew's forte' is in negative or vanishing edge pools. I first talked to Lew three years ago on a show piece project that I was bidding on. Although he was in route to visit his ailing father, he took the time to call me and, not only answer my many questions, he advised me in areas I hadn't thought about. For that Lew Akins will always have my respect and admiration. This month, I'm highlighting one of Lew's latest projects down in south Texas. The customer in this case asked to remain anonymous but is well known by many. Lew was kind enough to share these photos of this beautiful pool and spa. The pool is a Lew Akins signature negative edge pool. The interior finish of both the pool and spa is done in absolutely beautiful tile. The stone is native to Texas. The spa is ten feet above the pool and spills into a creek that descends down into the pool. The catch basin pump of the vanishing edge discharges to the spa wall thus adding to the creek flow.
